Ecotherapy

What is Ecotherapy?

Ecotherapy, or applied ecopsychology, encompasses a broad range of nature-based methods of psychological healing, grounded in the crucial fact that people are inseparable from the rest of nature and nurtured by healthy interaction with the Earth.   Examples of these methods are animal-assisted therapy, gardening, bringing nature indoors to hospital patients, and wilderness work with at-risk juveniles, to name a few.

It takes into account the latest scientific understandings of our universe and the deepest indigenous wisdom. This perspective reveals the critical fact that people are intimately connected with nature.

A multitude of evidence-based studies in the last two decades have proven the benefits of connecting with nature to help with depression, stress, mental fatigue, emotional trauma, addiction symptoms, lower blood pressure, enhance self-esteem, encourage new social behaviors in dementia patients, help with impulse control in acting-out youth, and decrease post-operative recovery time.
